CCRSoftware and QuickBooks 2010

| October 9, 2009 | 10 Comments

All current releases of CCRSoftware products do work with QuickBooks 2010 without any problems, but the intial releases of the new version of QuickBooks has a number of bugs that are causing some people problems with some third party products.

Our testing of QuickBooks 2010 shows that all CCRSoftware products generally run without problems. However, in some cases, you may see some errors. These problems are due to flaws in the initial QuickBooks 2010 release, not flaws in CCRSoftware products.

  • Enterprise v10 has increased the number of custom fields that you can create in both the item list as well as the customer list. Unfortunately, Intuit did not add these to the programming interface, so no third party products can access the additional fields. You can continue to use custom fields in CCRSoftware products, but we will only be able to work with the first 5 in the item list and the first 7 in the customer list.
  • There are reports (not confirmed here yet) that non-US editions of QuickBooks 2010 running on Windows 7 will not correctly run ANY third party add on product that uses the standard programming interface (the “QBSDK”). This isn’t a problem with the US editions of QuickBooks 2010
  • If you use the “Other1″ or “Other2″ columns in an order template you may get error messages when you sort the orders in CCRQInvoice. Note that these error messages do not prevent the program from working – all work is done properly, but Intuit is returning a bogus error message in some cases.

If you need to work with QuickBooks 2010 and you have an existing installation of an older  version of QuickBooks, we recommend that you install the new release in parallel and test it on a test set of data BEFORE you fully commit to it. If you find that you have a problem with a CCRSoftware product please contact our support department and we will work with you to determine if there is a problem.

In some cases some users have reported problems running a CCRSoftware product immediately after installing QuickBooks 2010, with an 80040408 error code. See the Practical QuickBooks article on this error for information on how to remedy the problem.

We are a small manufacturer. We currently are still using QB 2002 for all of our invoicing, order entry and accounting.

Separately we maintain our own MRP, Purchasing and Indentured Bills of Material which, as you know, is very awkward.

We are looking to invest in QB2010 as well as to try your $150 software program that permits multi-level BOM’s (I like that). How does this interface with QB2010 with regards to inventory depletion, purchasing and itemized costing of the BOM? Those are my 3 big questions.

Also, I am concerned about your mention of “bugs” that cause trouble with your software.

Please advise. Your product seems, at first blush, to be good one for us.

    David

    • Charlie says:

Mr. Jacks, there are a number of bugs in QuickBooks, both in the product itself and in the programming interface that they provide to third party developers. This sometimes limits what can be done with a third party product.

However, all features of our off-the-shelf product (CCRQBOM) work perfectly well with QuickBooks 2010. There are some new features in QB 2010 (particularly in the Enterprise edition) that are not accessible via third party programs, but that shouldn’t cause any problems.

CCRQBOM uses the data in QuickBooks itself. If you issue a “build” in CCRQBOM it is 100% identical to issuing a “build” in QuickBooks, so all inventory interaction is identical. In fact, the issuing of a build is actually done by QuickBooks, even if it is intiated by our product. If you have specific questions please don’t hesitate to contact us at sales@ccrsoftware.com

I am updatig to qb2010 and am having issues wth the shipping manager. It does not give me the pricing that I am being billed. Fed ex is right on the money, but UPS doesn’t include rural charges, surcharges etc ec…I
‘ve been underbilling for over a year…and I blame quickbooks. My ups account number is in the system. Why won’t the program bill what the account has been set up for?
Now I’m afraid that other stuff won’t work with qb2010. What abot window 7.? Has that been giving 2010 problems too? Just questions

  3. Charlie says:

Sally, I don’t work with the UPS shipping product in QuickBooks so I can’t give you an answer about that. Other third party products generally work OK on QB 2010 (my software does). Windows 7 – that is up to the third party developer but it usually isn’t an issue for anything that has been written to be compatible with Vista. There are some people who remark on compatibility issues with QB 2010 on Windows 7, but in general that works. You can see my article on QB and Windows 7 in my other blog, http://qbblog.ccrsoftware.info/2009/10/quickbooks-and-windows-7/

You answered a question for me on QB’s today. I maybe interest in your software. Is there a demo? Can we try it out first? How much does it take to start using it? Is there alot of updating to do and extra time involved?

    Kraig

    • Charlie says:

Kraig, if you go to our primary web site at http://www.ccrsoftware.com/, you will find the info that you are looking for. You can download fully functional demo versions of our products. As far as how much time and effort it takes, that depends on which product you are interested in and what features you wish to use. For the most part they are simple to install and use. Some features may take more work to set up, depending on the results you are trying to get.

  5. jerry Mabie says:

We are looking at your software. Our main goal is to integrate bar code into our invoice systems to track serial numbers of products shipped to our customers. Can your system handle card code printing and scanning ?

    JM

    • Charlie says:

Jerry, feel free to contact our sales staff directly at sales@ccrsoftware.com, as it is easier to correspond that way.

With all of our products you can print bar code info using any field, in any report. We also have a specific bar code printing product (not listed on our web site) if you want to print labels from the item list, etc.

As for scanning, we don’t have anything off the shelf that deals with that. You can use a bar code scanner connected to your computer to use a bar code as a replacement for a keyboard, without any special software (other than what comes with the scanner, and what you use to PRINT the bar codes). We don’t have any special purpose programs that would assist you in things like physical inventories, etc.

  6. Catherine says:

    Charles,

I have already set up custom invoice and estimate templates in QuickBooks 2010 and would like to use CCRS to print multi-page invoices and estimates. I have exported the QBs template to my desktop, but I am unable to get it into CCRQInvoice-demo version. How do I accomplish this? Also, will my existing QuickBooks invoices automatically show up in CCRQ?

Goal: To have QuickBooks ‘Total’ and my Custom Field: ‘Conditions’ print only on last page.

    Thank you, Catherine

  7. Charlie says:

Catherine – QuickBooks templates are not compatible with CCRQInvoice. They are totally different, which is why our product can do so much more than QuickBooks. You would need to set up a template with our editor, from scratch.

It would be best if you contact us via our support email address (support@ccrsoftware.com) rather than try to work this out through blog comments…
