CCRQBOM Upcoming Features

We will be releasing a new version of CCRQBOM in early May 2009 (3.2.1) . This article describes some of the new features. Please note that some of these screen shots were taken from a pre-release version, so there may be some minor variations from the actual release. You can download this version from our web site at http://www.ccrsoftware.com/CCRQBOM/CCRQBOM.htm - and the full documentation is available there as well.

If you have an earlier registered copy of CCRQBOM you can upgrade to this for no charge.

Here are a few screen shots from the new product.

BOM Report

The Bill of Materials Report  has been updated to add more fields for the inventory parts. Note that the ItemOption selections in this display are the custom fields as defined in your item list.

In addition, we’ve made it easier to “map” a custom field in your item list to the custom field in the report.

Also, by popular request, you can print a BOM for multiple assemblies in a “batch” mode, instead of just one at a time as you must do in QuickBooks.

Order Processing

This function will take a list of orders (sales orders, estimates or invoices) that you specify and locate all inventory assembly items that are listed. From this list of items you can create an aggregate requirements list that shows all component parts that are needed to build those assembly items.

Here is a list of sales orders for the date range:

This is a listing of assembly items that are found in the selected orders (quantities are combined from all orders):

This is a listing of all of the component parts that you need to be able to build all of the assembly items listed in those orders:

Multi-Build

We have added the ability to generate requirements and issue builds for multiple assemblies at a time. In the screen below you would enter the quantity you want to build of each assembly in the Required column. Note that the program provides you with additional information, such as the quantity on hand, on purchase orders, on sales orders, on pending builds, and so forth.

BOM Cost Rollup

QuickBooks provides several cost values for inventory assembly items. Average Cost is managed by the program, based on receipt and build transactions. Cost is an editable field, essentially the last received cost for the item. Total Bill of Materials Cost is shown only on the screen in the Edit Item window – this is the sum of the Costvalues of the components of the BOM. Unfortunately, if you have subassemblies, the Cost value for a higher level assembly is not updatedby QuickBooks automatically as component costs change at lower levels.

In the new release of CCRQBOM we have added a function that will update the Cost value of all assemblies based on the component costs of lower level components and assemblies.

Where Used Report

In this new release we have included a “where used” report. This is like a “reverse BOM” – a listing of each component and the assemblies it is found in. This is particularly useful if you have a shortage of a part (what assemblies are affected?) or have to make an engineering change.

  1. We need drawing balloon (item) numbers on our BOMs to co-ordinate the two. Is this going to be a feature?

  2. Arthur, unfortunately, that isn’t something we can currently do. We are working with the information that QuickBooks manages, we don’t store our own information. Intuit has not provided a feature to store information in a BOM, like “custom fields” in invoices perhaps.

Some day in the future we’ll get to a point where we can do that, as we’ll start storing additional information outside of QuickBooks, but I don’t have a release date for anything like that. It is a ways off.
