Get the Feature You Need

Every business has its own way of doing things, procedures and forms that are vital to the services or products you provide. While QuickBooks is very flexible, people often find that it is missing one of these key features. CCRSoftware provides a customization service that can help you fit QuickBooks to your business, rather than having you change your business to fit QuickBooks.

There are many ways that you can alter how QuickBooks works for you. File imports and exports can be used to obtain or alter data in some cases. You can find a number of third party off-the-shelf products (such as our own CCRQBOM and CCRQInvoice programs) that can provide you with additional features. You can also use several different programming tools if you want to take the time to work out the details (and have the technical ability). If you don’t want to take the time to learn how to use these tools, and if the third party products that are available just don’t fit the bill, a custom program may be the approach for you.

There are a number of companies that are licensed by Intuit to create custom programs that work with QuickBooks. CCRSoftware is one of the companies that provides this kind of service (visit our comments page to see what our customers say). Here is a short list to give you some idea of what we have done:

  • Bar code reports to track inventory taken to a trade show.
  • Customer sales history query showing the most recent products sold to a customer, including quoted prices, and the latest purchase cost.
  • Batch printing of invoices sorted by customer.
  • Shop cards showing the component parts to be used in an assembly.
  • Custom data imports to generate invoices based on an Excel spreadsheet.
  • Reformatted estimates that can show the unit sales price even if you are using markups, and the ability to make global changes to markups.
  • Sales lead capture forms that generate a new customer in QuickBooks with selected information.
  • Auto shop invoices that list the parts on the left side and services on the right side.
  • Modified versions of CCRQBOM that pull assembly info from sales orders.

In the future we will highlight some of these custom programs in this blog. If there is a particular area that you are interested, leave a comment letting us know what you would like to see.

  1. Hi
I am an apparel manufacturer and I was wondering if you have developed a feature that uses a matrix for different sizes and colors for inventory and purchase order purposes?

    I need it!

    Thanks,
    Linda

  2. Hi, Linda – unfortunately we don’t have this feature – it is on the drawing board, but it isn’t at the top of the list right now. It is not a simple task!

If you look in my Practical QuickBooks blog you will see a discussion that we have started, although there hasn’t been a lot going on there. Take a look at http://qbblog.ccrsoftware.com/2008/05/apparel-matrix.html

  3. We need to create a picklist that shows all the components of the assembly that we create. I see that we can create a detailed bill of materials, but there may be other items on the picklist that are not assemblies (kits as we call them). There must be a way to do this with yoru software but I cannot easily find it.

Also, we sell items that have up to 4 color choices, so creating an assembly with all 4 optional colors means creating 16 items in QB. Is there a way to change an item on an assembly or create a flexible assembly?

    Thx

  4. Bev, the program wasn’t initially intended to be a full pick list like you are looking for. There isn’t a way to get that as it stands now. If you would like to consider a custom version (for a fee), contact me at charlie@ccrsoftware.com. This feature is on the “wish list” but it isn’t very high on it right at this moment.

For the second part, that is outside the scope of our program currently. We only work with the BOM structure that QB manages. You might take a look at this article for some ideas, although it is a workaround at best: http://qbblog.ccrsoftware.info/2008/06/groups-for-custom-manufacturers/
