CCRQBOM Updates

This post discusses a number of changes to CCRQBOM that will be released in the near future. A few of you have seen some of these features already as a part of our field tests. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask! Some of these are enhancements, some of them fix problems.

  1. If you use Sales Orders in QuickBooks, the new release will let you select a range of sales orders and will locate all Inventory Assembly items listed in those sales orders. The program will list those assemblies, and will generate an aggregate requirements report that will list all of the component items you need to purchase to make the selected items.
  2. We have added a number of fields to the report generator for the BOM and requirements listings, such as the manufacturers part number and preferred vendor, so that you can add them to the reports.
  3. In the current standard release the full level requirements report will not take the balance of an intermediate assembly into account. That is, if your high level assembly requires three of a subassembly, and you have one on hand, it would still build three subassemblies. With the new release you have the option of using the available subassemblies before a build is issued.
  4. QuickBooks doesn’t work well if you have negative inventory balances, but this can happen. If you issue a full level build in CCRQBOM and you have a negative balance of a subassembly, the requirements report would work properly, but if you issued the build it would fail because of the negative balance. That is, if you have -1 subassembly, and the requirement was for two, QuickBooks would fail because you wouldn’t be issuing enough to fulfill that artificial shortage. In the new release the program will detect this situation and will build enough subassemblies to address that negative balance.

This is a brief listing of the changes, hopefully the explanation is clear. If not, let me know and I’ll post a more detailed explanation. Keep your eye on this blog for the announcement of the general release – all registered users can get a copy of the updated program for no charge.

  1. Sounds good – I use your product every day and these features will help. When can we get a copy?

  2. The general release won’t be available until April or May, more or less. If you send an email to sales@ccrsoftware.com asking to be a “beta test” site, and you are a registered user, you might be able to get a pre-release

  3. Charlie, I must say I am impressed with you work that you have been doing on this product. I am starting to use it in conjunction with my QB Mfg. DTM is a very small electronics circuit board assembly house. One of the areas of frustration for us is of course BOMs. Many of the electronic components that I use are used on multiple assemblies, but any given component will have a different reference designator depending on the assembly. Here is an example:
Widget A has part RES0008, qty 3 at refdes R15,R16,R20. Widget B has part RES0008, qty 2 at refdes R28,R29. Will you be adding a feature to allow these type of fields to be associated to a BOM? And, will it allow an import from an excel sheet or some other form?

I will be purchasing the CCRQBOM here in the near future.

    Regards,
    Brett Davis
    DTM-LLC

  4. Brett, thank you.

At this time we don’t have a firm plan on adding reference designators. Maybe someday.

The problem is that there isn’t a way to store that kind of information in QuickBooks itself. You know that it doesn’t support that feature, and they don’t provide a flexible mechanism to let us add fields. We would have to store this information outside of QuickBooks, and that isn’t a part of our current design goals. As it stands, the program works entirely with data inside of QuickBooks.

We have been approached by another company that was asking for this feature, and we had a proposal to them as a “custom add-on”, which we sometimes to for customers. The client rejected this because the price was too high for them (they are having us do some other work, though). If you are interested, we could split the cost between your company and theirs – contact me directly at charlie@ccrsoftware.com if you would like to pursue this.

  5. I read the response in another post, I downloaded your trial software, and based on your response I see that I need the latest version to acomplish what I need. To recap what I need is: Custom fields in a BOM, Vendor Part Number and a Ref Designator. I do not see that when I try to Edit my BOM, please point me in the right direction as far as purchasing your software and also after purchasing can I try the software out for 30 Days to make sure it is exactly what I need. Thanks so much for your help! Also so far I think your software is great and a much needed addition to Quickbooks Manufacturing.

  6. Adriane: I will contact you directly to discuss the details of your request. Please note that with the trial version that you have downloaded you have 30 days to test it, so you can use that trial period before making your purchase.

The upcoming release of the program (now set for April, sorry for the delays) will let you access custom fields from the item list in the reports. That might not be what you are looking for – Intuit doesn’t make provisions for custom fields in the BOM itself (such as you might need for a “ref designator” if I understand what you are looking for.
